nebraska state capitol voting campaign / 2020
I created a voting campaign during the 2020 election using imagery and graphics of the Nebraska State capitol, culminating in a series of 3 posters and 6 postcards. A tour of the captol was a great source of insperation, specifically the Art Deco inspiration in all of these fields influenced the building as a whole, not just the art, but the architecture and industrial design elements. I wanted to figure out how to incorporate these into my own design through the use of color instead of exceedingly complicated decorative elements.

My idea behind this series was to show people leading themselves into the capitol in three stages, one outside the capitol, seeing it raise above their heads, the next in the entrance hall where you can see the vaulted chamber above, and finally into the west wing of the capitol where the legislature is at where the most people have grouped. This in essence is meant to show how each persons vote directly leads somewhere very physical and every one of the viewers has an impact.

This all culminated in the creation of my poster series leaning on my sketches for composition while adding a flat coloring scheme, in an attempt to garner images of a printed poster, valuing simplicity to push the message. You can also start to see influences of mid-century modern travel posters in the posters, trying make a headline as if this was an exotic location. The type is meant to juxtapose the flat images and add a printed texture that still reinforces the general theme.
